Hi GuysI bought an Amilo Xi 1546 and an Amilo Si 1520 (for GF) one year ago last month.Yesterday I decided to upgrade bios on both. I got upgrades from FS site. The Xi upgrade was an uneventful experience. I used windows upgrade method (first time for me) instead of the usual CD iso burning method (the way I did before). It worked fine.I did the same on the Si 1520. Just before it finished the screen displayed lines of text for a second, then went blank with fan running continious.I had power from ac as well as battery before flashing.
I had no programs running. I had disabled spyware and AV software.I realized straight away that the bios upgrade had crashed. I will not repeat the words that came from my mouth. GF didnt believe me when i explained the implications.Today I rang FS support in order to get a new bios chip supplied and/or fitted. To my horror they told me that the bios chip is soldered to mainboard and I would need a new mainboard to be fitted. COST: over €500. Just to buy board:€300+The FS support (first line) said it did not matter that it was out of warranty, BIOS upgrade is not covered. When I asked what about goodwill gesture, he said blank 'no'.
I asked to talk to second line support but he said I could not. I asked to speak with somebody else, he refused.Murphys law states that if something can go wrong it will more than likey go wrong at some stage. For those upgrading their BIOS keep murphy's law in mind. Especially with Si1520If anyone knows what kind of bios chip and where to buy a it for this mainboard. May be able to get somebody to solder it in (am not good enough at soldering)Have seen one Italian website that replaces soldered chip with new one flashed with what ever version you require. Has anybody any experience of this.Boo.
Hi bubblegumAm looking for somebody to help me sort my crashed bios. I dont need a link to the user manual of the laptop. It already comes with the laptop on a disc and is available on FS site.
The furthest the FS manuls go is replacing memory and HD. I am looking for a disassembly manual.Without sounding rude Bubblegum, most people have google or similar on there browser.Like i stated on the opening post: 'Have seen one Italian website that replaces soldered chip with new one flashed with what ever version you require. Has anybody any experience of this'and you reply with a link to the same site.So I ask again: Does anybody know where I can get a disassembly manual or even a short step by step for Si 1520May send the laptop itself to the Italian company:Has anybody used this company or does anybody know of a bios solder replacement company closer. Like maybe in the UK.Or does anybody know what type of bios chip: DIP 16x16 or PLCC 7x9x7x9 is on the Si1520RegardsBoo. Hi boopolo,I find that most people on forums don't know how to google. So I'm sorry if I underestimated you.My motherboard has a page which shows a link for bios recovery.
I couldn't find your mb manual, so I pointed to the link. I didn't realise I sent the same link a second time.I have no experience of the website you found, so I can't comment.I wish you luck in getting the answers to your questions on this forum.I hope you are not offended but, I found a Bios websiteYou might find something about a bios recovery.I also googled & found a site with pictures of how to disassemble Fs laptopsAgain I wish you luck, in your quest. Bubblegum,I already told you I have google, and used it extensively before posting this thread. So why do you keep putting up useless links. The second link is well known to most Amilo users, but if you took the time to look there is no SI 1520. If you are tring to get your post count up, please use another thread.Anyway I see on other forums that lots of people are losing their bios using fujitsus-siemens windows upgrade. This is interestingOn 29-08-06 F-S brought out version 1.10 in both FLASH & DOS FLASH (no exe version)On 26-01-07 they brought out version 1.19 in Flash, DOS Flash, and EXE (I used the latter)Three weeks later they brought out 1.20 in DOS Flash, and flash iso 5 weeks later.
That was last March; and still no V1.20 in EXE.I am sure they will find some excuse, but to me that states that either V1.19 itself or the exe (windows version) had given problems.Boopolo. Boopolo,I just read this thread and felt obliged to comment.bubblegum was simply trying to help you with the problem you have, there was no reason for you to reply in that manner.I dont know what type of forum you usually frequent but I can assure you we here have no interest in 'trying to get our post count up'.We do this in our spare time in an effort to help people and get no pay and little thanks.I for one have now spent quite enough of that spare time looking at your thread and I would imagine with an attitude like that, few others will spare the time either.
You are entitled to your viewBut i do not agree. I read several of his other posts, and they are all the same. I made it clear that i had researched with Google. In my opening thread, I stated that I had seen one Italian website that replaces soldered chip with new one flashed with what ever version you require. Then the first reply I get is a link to the site I mention previous. That is not helpful.
Also he said: 'Check the motherboard manual. There may be bios recovery instructions'. FS dont have motherboard manuals. The boards are usually made specific to a laptop range.
The procedure for recovery is simple for them all. REPLACE BIOS CHIP. (soldered or not). Next he gives me a link to my own computer manual. Would you find that helpful?
You are missing the point. When you refer to 'we do this in our spare time' I do not understand what you mean. 'We' is everyone. This is a forum. The nature of these type of forums is everybody helps each other. Some people have more technical experience than others. When one requests some technical information, one would expect an answer, not ones very words put into google; and handed back unchecked useless links.
You would expect that if sombody gives you a link to a site that they actually check out the site themselves before posting. But this flaming here is unhelpful to the users of this forum and is completley off-topic. Bubblegum, I am sorry if I upset you. I made it clear to you that I had researched with google and was looking for help from somebody that actually had experience with this kind of problem. Also experience with the Italian company. I also requested if anyboby had a disassembly manual (some of these are DIY manuals (not Si1520) are on repair4laptop)So back on-topic:Well in any case I am going to be the Guinea Pig. I have sent the laptop (without removing motherboard) to Italy.
Will post back and let you know. The cost for this service is €130 including VAT and return delivery. It arrived in Italy today.Boo. Sorry Bubblegumfor not getting back to you sooner, but I had still not got my Laptop back from recoverybios.
They had the computer in total 5 weeks. They said they would return the €130 in the email. They have not.I have now got it repaired from fujitsu.FYI Mr engst03 (from FS support?) The original guy I spoke with in FS support was very helpful and courteous. It was not his fault that they were not allowed to give goodwill gestures. I have since found out that he should have given me the name/address of somebody else in FS to request some goodwill. This is I beleive a long ardious process using snail mail. Also Mr engst03 (are you not aware that you are only allowed one account here), I did not use any language other than English (I am not English though).
I did not swear. I was a bit frustrated with the answer that one member gave me here. That was sorted. So why do you insist on flaming here.
People here are not interested in flaming. They join here for support, ideas and recomendations. So on the TOPIC:Do I reccommend recoverybios.com?NONot because the couldnt fix it.But because they do not give good service. Even after they said they couldnt repair it, it two weeks for them to return it.I have since read other complaints on xbox forums about there service.Repair from FS was €489 exc. Vat including delivery.RegardsBoopolo.
